Samples of 24 frontline workers at SQC Lekhi test negative

ITANAGAR, JUN 30:

Samples of 24 frontline workers who come in contact with two health staff who tested positive for COVID-19 at State Quarantine Centre (SQC), Lekhi have tested negative, informed State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa on Tuesday.

Two health workers of the State Quarantine Center had tested positive on Monday without coming in direct contact with the positive patients, raising alarms of potential community transmission in the state capital.

Meanwhile, four more military personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 in West Kameng district.

The military personnel had returned from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi and Maharashtra. All the cases have been detected from facility quarantine centers. They are asymptomatic and have been shifted to COVID care center, the health department in its daily bulletin informed.

One patient was released from COVID care center of West Kameng after the results of two consecutive tests came negative. The patient was advised 14-day strict home quarantine and self-monitoring.

Changlang district still has the highest number of active cases at 54, followed by the state capital (40), West Kameng (15), Namsai (8), Longding (3), Tirap (2), one each in Lohit, Lower Dibang Valley, Lepa Rada, Tawang, Lower Siang and Lower Siang districts.

Earlier, the state reported its first COVID-19 death after a 43-year old woman, resident of West Kameng district, passed away on June 24 last. She was suffering from chronic kidney ailment and had returned to the state from Delhi on June 11 last.

The state reported its first COVID-19 case on April 2 after a 31-year-old man, who attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi, tested positive for the infection. He recovered and was discharged from a hospital on April 16.

The state reported its second case after a gap of six weeks on May 24 when a student returning from the national capital tested positive for the deadly virus.
