Joint consultative meeting held on Offspring issue

ITANAGAR, JUN 29:

A second Joint Consultative meeting under the chairmanship of Minister for SJETA (Social Justice, Empowerment & Tribal Affairs) Alo Libang was held on Monday to discuss the issue relating to existing system of issuing Arunachal Pradesh Schedule Tribes (APST) certificates to off-springs of Non-APST father and APST mother, extension of other benefits and suggestion for policy framework on the issue for consideration of the government.

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) was represented by its president Hawa Bagang and general secretary Tobom Dai in the meeting.

AAPSU in its statement informed that after threadbare discussion, the house unanimously acknowledged the problems posed due to misuse of APST certificate by numerous individuals who acquire such certificates by fraudulent means.

The legal complicacies in framing a policy on the issue were also discussed in the meeting.

AAPSU suggested involvement of legal luminaries of the state including the Advocate General of the State, so that legislation framed by the state government on the issue stands the scrutiny of the courts.

AAPSU also extended its sincere gratitude to SJETA minister Alo Libang, MLAs Nyamar Karbak and Kento Jini for initiating discussion in last assembly session. It also thanked all those MLAs who wholeheartedly took part in the discussion on the issue.

Later in the day, an AAPSU team led by Vice-President (Admin) Meje Taku visited the office of Directorate of Higher and Technical Education at Itanagar to enquire about the release of pending scholarship for the 18081 students as was assured to the AAPSU team in a previous meeting with the Education minister and Secretary Education.

It was informed to the visiting team that as the Director (H&TE) is out of station on some engagement, the scholarship under couldn't be released.

However, it was assured that the same would be processed immediately once the Director (H&TE) rejoins his office at Itanagar, the Union in its statement said.

The visiting team led by VP (Admin) Meje Taku strongly urged the Director (H&TE) & FAO (H&TE) to immediately do the needful for early release of scholarship within 2 days and warned of protest in case of failure to do so.
