A diagnostic camp cum free distribution of aids and appliances for persons with disabilities was held today at Rupa administrative sub-division by the department of Social Justice & Empowerment and Tribal Affairs (SJETA) in collaboration with the district administration and ICDS West Kameng.
Encouraging the persons with disabilities to come forward, local MLA D W Kharma appealed the PwDs to register themselves in order to avail the benefits which are free of cost. He also gave away hearing aids, wheel chairs, crutches, walker/rolator and blind sticks to the disabled persons present during the occasion.
Earlier, Director SJETA Yumlam Kaha dwelt at length on the disabilities schemes such as Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) and the Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID).
A total of 538 fresh applications have been registered so far online out of which 473 applications have been generated for disability certificates and UDID cards. Persons with disabilities would get 4 percent reservation in departmental jobs under the Rights of persons with Disability Act 2016.
Number of disabled persons got registered during the camp to get their UDID cards in order to avail benefits under the central and state government schemes.
In fact, the UDID project is being implemented with a view of creating a national database for PwDs and to issue a Unique Disability Identity Card to each person with disabilities. DIPRO
