State observes World Disability Day


International Day for Persons with Disability was observed in a befitting manner here at Pasighat today.

A sensitization program was organized at the Mirem UPS where 37 Pasighat west MLA Ninong Ering graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme was attended by the host of officers, teachers, school children, differently-abled persons and their escorts, Gam burahs, villagers and functionaries from the WCD.

MLA Ninong Ering in his speech lauded the efforts of the department in working towards the empowerment of the differently-abled and said that there is a special need for the participation and equal opportunities to be ensured for the differently-abled persons in all programmes whether in schools or offices and that the various programs could be implemented effectively if the department are sensitive to the needs of the differently-abled persons.

He also urged those present in the meeting, especially the local heads and leaders to come forward and to take advantage of the government policies and programmes and to sensitize those who were unaware.

In her keynote address Dy. Director (ICDS) PE Angu spoke on the significance of the day. She apprised the audience on the various programmes, benefits and rights the government has provided for the differently abled persons.

Token of appreciations were handed over to the PWDs who had attended the programme by the chief guest. The Headmaster of the school and the Gam Buras of the village also spoke on the occasion.

An awareness meet was also organized this evening at the Pasighat Engo Takar Residential School. SDO Pasighat Oli Perme attended as chief guest who stressed that the differently abled persons must be included in the mainstream of the society by using their capabilities and enabling them to live a productive respectable life.

The Principal of the school while extending welcome address, remarked that there is no disability in the real sense and that it was only in our mind and attitude, while the DD (ICDS) spoke on the purpose of the day stressing on the need to prevent disability at the outset by taking care to cover all immunizations and ensure check-ups especially during pregnancy, touching on the subject of PMMVY where first time mothers are provided with a financial amount of Rs. 5000 by the government.

Jitor Pertin an empowered person with sight debility spoke on how he overcame his handicap to stand on his own as a musician and advised the children to respect every person and to learn to listen and then only will you listen to learn. He also played a lyrical number on his guitar which touched the hearts of all those present on the occasion.

Samy Moyong, physiotherapist, BPGH also spoke on the various kinds of disabilities, causes and the prevention of debilitating illnesses.

The DDSE and other officers along with the parents, students and teachers attended the programme.

Earlier on Monday, painting and drawing competitions were organized for school children wherein prizes were given away to the winning competitors by the Dy. Director (ICDS) East Siang District.

At Namsai, World Disability Day was celebrated in the Hochayan Poi Pee mau ground, Organized jointly by District Administration and District Unit of SJETA in collaboration with Dept of Health UDID Unit, Education (ISSE, SSDS) and local NGOs like SEWA of Namsai and District Disability Welfare Society.

Altogether 107 (one hundred seven) differently able persons were participated from different villages of Namsai district along with their guardian and parents and few students. 107 Disability persons were given Disability Certificates and UDID Cards today by Medical Dept. on the occasion of world disability day at Namsai, through the Chief Guest of the programme Bijoy Talukdar, Deputy Commissioner Namsai.

He appreciated the Organizer of the programme especially to District nodal officer SJETA Unit and District Administrator UDID Unit for human services to disable people. He also gave away the Prizes and certificates of appreciation to all the participants in the games and sports events. The day was observed with display and sales of products made by differently able person. The program started with awareness speeches and highlighted the importance of world disability observation by resource person from education Department Uttam kumar and CDPO cum district Nodal Officer W.Khimhun.

Dr. C.M.Thamoung district administrator UDID highlighted the importance of Creating UDID and few causes of preventable and correctable disabilities.
