At least twenty-five houses were reduced to ashes in two separate fire accidents that took place at Dirang in West Kameng district and Mariyang under Upper Siang district.
The fire in Upper Siang, which broke out at Millang village of Mariyang circle at around 8.30 on Friday morning, completely destroyed at least nineteen houses and partially damaged about seven. No loss of lives has been reported so far.
Deputy Commissioner, Upper Siang district, Taper Pada along with ADC Mariyang, Dr Monjuli Komut and DDMO i/c A Koyu, EAC and other administrative officers visited the spot and distributed immediate relief in cash and kind.
DC instructed ADC Mariyang to form a board for assessment of loss and damages for grant of relief from the government.
Meanwhile, the inferno that broke out at Rama Camp market under Dirang Sub-division at around 10 pm on Thursday night, totally razed down six houses and partially destroyed one. No loss of life has been reported there too.
The fire was brought under control after more than three hours of struggle by the fire tenders. Cause of the fire and assessment of the damages incurred is being worked out by the Sub-Divisional Executive Committee, Dirang.
Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering, DC Sonal Swaroop, ADC Dirang Toko Babu, SDMO Tongchin along with other officers from the district administration provided immediate relief in both cash and kind to the victims later on the day.
Meanwhile, Dr Ojing Dameng, a young IRS officer, who hails from Millang village, now posted at Nagpur as Assistant Commissioner, who made it to the Indian Revenue Services by clearing UPSC a year ago in 2018 has also shown his shock and grief over the incident. He arranged and purchased relief items for the affected families on hearing the news and dispatched it to his native village this afternoon from Nagpur. DIPRO
