Governor, CM extend Onam greetings

ITANAGAR, SEP 10:

Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have extended their warm greetings to the people of the State on the festive occasion of Onam.

In his festival message, the Governor said that Onam is the most popular festival of Kerala and is celebrated with great enthusiasm, show and gaiety. The festival of Onam is dedicated to King Mahabali who was an Asur by birth but graduated to Godhood by the virtue of his philanthropic deeds. The reign of King Mahabali, the most just and benevolent king ever born, is considered as the golden age of Kerala. During his reign, no needy person ever returned empty handed from his door. The reminiscence about King Mahabali has it, that the king, in order to keep his words, gave away his entire Kingdom, i.e. the earth and the space and his body, his corporeal possession too, which were asked for by the God and acquiesced by the King. As a reward for his sacrifice, he was blessed by the Almighty to remain eternally in the mind of the people of Kerala. His annual visit day to earth accordingly is celebrated as Onam festival, the Governor said.

On this auspicious day of Onam, I join my fellow citizens of Arunachal Pradesh in extending our good wishes to the people of Kerala living in our State, as also outside the States, in the country and abroad, the Governor said.

Let us, caring for the sanctity of Onam festival, beyond all physical and mental barriers and unite into a common brotherhood in our great country. May King Mahabali, on this Onam Day, bestow health, wealth, happiness and fullness to us all, the Governor wished.

Meanwhile, CM Khandu in his message wished for the festival to bring prosperity, happiness and peace. He said Onam signifies the values of mutual harmony, kindness and peace that are integral to India rich in diverse cultures.
