World Population Day observed


Along with rest of the world, the World Population Day was observed in several parts of the state with the theme Parivar niyojan se nibhaya zimmedaari, Maa aur bachhe ke swashthya ki puri teyarri on Thursday.

The Arunachal Pradesh Health Society organized a rally, performed skits and screened short films to raise awareness on the ill effects of growing population and means to control it at a celebration organized at Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1 School, Naharlagun.

Alo Libang, Minister Health & Family Welfare speaking on the occasion said that the reason for observing the day is not for happiness but a reminder of the serious issue before us and checking and controlling alarming population growth which has led to economic imbalance in our country and in the world at large.

He said that family plays a very effective role in the betterment of health of mother and child apart from population stabilization. He also appealed all to create awareness on the importance of adopting family planning and to avail facilities from health centers to delay and control childbirth and for reproductive health care.

Director Family Welfare, Dr Alok Yirang dwelt at length about the adverse effects of population growth in the development process and said that proper planning should be made and the general masses be sensitized to control the high growth of population. Advocating for a small family for happiness in life, he said that creating awareness among the people is the need of the hour.

On the occasion, an infotainment comic Arun Aaanchal Vol-1 was also released by the minister.

Dr Runi Tassung Nodal officer, Rashtriya Kishor Swastiya Karyakaram (RKSK) informed that the comic was the brained child of former mission Director, Dr Kinny Singh, the incumbent DC of East Siang district.

The main motive of comic is to create peer awareness among the adolescent through learning and chatting.

Later, Libang flagged off a motor bicycle rally from KV School, Naharlagun, entrance gate under the National Vector Borne Control programme.

At Yupia, the District Health Society, Papum Pare, Yupia observed the World Population Day at Health & Wellness Centre.

ADC Tabang Bodung launched the Population Stabilization Fortnight in presence of Dr Tasso Kampu, DMO, DRCHO-cum-CEO, DSO, DANO, MO I/C HWC, DPMU, staffs, ASHAs and general public.

The ADC highlighted population burden and its effect in the socio economic status of the people and state as a whole. He advised all present to create awareness on control of population growth through various family planning methods provided by health facilities of the district, so that health status of the children, women and mothers improve and thus the economy of the people.

By adopting family planning methods, population will be stabilized and the burden of unemployment will be lessening, he said.

The DMO Papum Pare Yupia, Dr Subu Tasso Kampu requested all the staffs, especially all frontline health workers like ANM/ASHAs/AWWs to disseminate the information in community level and give awareness on adopting family planning methods like temporary and permanent sterilization as per individual convenient.

She also informed that OCP, condoms, ECP are available in all health facility and injection ANTRA is available in some health facility where trained doctors are available.

At Yingkiong, Deputy Commissioner, Karma Leki, while launching world population stabilization fortnight at District Hospital, Yingkiong urged all present to adopt Ham doh, Humare doh norms of the government and discourage polygamy for happy family and to control the ever increasing population of the country.

On the occasion, the DC requested all the parents present not to allow their daughter to marry before the marriageable age of 21 years as the early marriage invites so many adversaries in the life. He also asked all ASHA s and Anganwadi workers to disseminate the knowledge about various contraceptives being provided by the health department to every beneficiaries of the village for success of world population stabilization fortnight programme.

Earlier, to mark the occasion, a road rally was organized from the District Hospital to Lower Market and back to Hospital. Hundreds of Anganwadi workers/helpers, ABK Women Welfare Society, students and health officers led by District Programme Manager, NHM Upper Siang district participated in the rally.

Dr Appir Apang, DRCHO briefed about world population stabilization fortnight and Dr Etuk Jopir (OBG) gave a power point presentation about family planning methods.

Oma Pertin, President WW Society also spoke on the occasion.
