Rains continue to wreak havoc across Arunachal

ITANAGAR, JUL 11:

Incessant rains over the past couple of days continue to affect normalcy in several parts of the state, as landslides and flash floods have disrupted road communication, electricity and water supply.

All the education institutions in the capital had remained closed on the day following the Capital Complex district administration s order to do so as a precautionary measure. All the residents staying in landslide prone and water path areas have also been asked to move to safer locations.

The traffic along the national highway-415 between Itanagar and Naharlagun was halted due to overflow of rainwater over the road. The water level in Pare river is on the rise, forcing residents on both banks to evacuate to safer places.

In West Siang district, the main road near Aalo Helipad has been eroded creating traffic jams at that point; even as restoration works are on to protect it.

The Aalo-Pangin-Pasighat that was blocked on Wednesday evening was cleared in the morning today at around 11 am. Many passengers reportedly stranded on block point could only wait for hours together and many who went out this morning at early hours had to return back.

Aalo-Likabali road too has been blocked and people have to move through long Aalo- Pasighat road.

Minor incident of blocks in administrative circles and subdivisions too are reported and passengers are facing problems.

Meanwhile, the auto drivers and other vehicles parked beneath big trees have been cautioned to avoid such parking. Water loggings, rise in river level, erosions etc are being closely monitored by DDMO Nima Dorjee.

The incessant rains have also adversely affected normal life in East Siang district, as roads have been blocked by landslides and falling of trees. Flooding in several locations have also snapped water supply pipes, electricity etc.

Taking cognizance of the situation, the district administration has already issued a directive to the people, especially those settling in and around the Siang River near PI Line, Jarku, Jarkong, 2 Mile, Berung, Jampani and low lying / downstream villages under Mebo Sub-Division.

The district administration has also asked all its linked and concern departments to remain on their toes to tackle any untoward incidents.

Additional Dy. Commissioner, (HQ), Pasighat, Tatdo Borang informed that the flow of the Siang River and its level has not crossed its danger level yet. We have already alerted our officers and department concern and have also selected some evacuation sites in case of any emergency situation. At the same time, we are requesting all the general public not to collect any driftwood from the Siang river bank which works as a natural protection of erosion at times. We have seen people defying orders and directives, but we appeal our conscious citizen to discourage such practice of collecting driftwood , he said.

The DA has also directed the people not to go for fishing and venture around the Siang river bank.

Meanwhile, all other rivers and rivulets are also in full surge due to the incessant rain. The water supply pipeline near Silluk village under Mebo Sub-Division passing through Sukan Nolah, a seasonal river, was also damaged today which would affect water supply to Silluk village and others. The known troubling rivers like Siku, Sisar, Taratamak, Tolon Korong/Pagla Nadi are all in surge and are likely to cause more damages if rain continues for more days
