Tamin bridge on verge of collapse, CM directs its restoration

ITANAGAR, JUN 11:

Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday directed Commissioner Public Works Department (PWD) to restore the Tamin Bridge, near Ziro on war footing which has been partially damaged due to the impact of a heavy over loaded vehicle crossing over the bridge in the midnight of Monday.

The bridge is considered the lifeline of Lower Subansiri and Upper Subansiri districts.

Despite sign boards being put up on both sides of bridge s approaches with permissible load capacity of 9 MT for heavy vehicles inclusive of vehicle weight, the instant vehicle which was weighing more than the permissible limit had crossed over the bridge leading to the damage, informed Chief Engineer (Highways) PWD.

The department has already started the restoration works and the movement of light vehicles could be materialised by 3 PM earlier on the day.

It may be mentioned that during a recent review meeting of PWD with the CM, the matter was discussed in detail. The CM had ordered for immediate construction of a new bridge for which tender has already been floated in media on June 7 last by the department.

PWD Commissioner informed the Chief Minster that the process is being expedited and within few months, everything would be on track.
